Carrying on the legacy of Barbara Helynn Heard, LMT

In May 2021, my friend, sometimes mentor and colleague Barbara Helynn Heard, LMT announced that she was going to step away from teaching and massage practice to devote more time to living end enjoying life.  Barbara is an amazing person and an inspiration. She was one of the first people I met professionally as I contemplated embarking on my Lomi journey and massage career.  Her kindness and spirit were and are an inspiration.  Barbara had made it a mission of her later career to normalize full chest and breast massage within the context of a therapeutic treatment.  She created the first class in Seattle on full chest and breast massage and when she offered me the opportunity to carry on with this teaching, I said yes. 

As of May 2021, I will be offering a Full Chest & Breast Massage Class as a 16 hour Continuing Education class.  It is accepted by the State of Washington to satisfy their requirement and as of this writing is being approved by the NCBTMB.

A word about  Gender - Why a male Instructor ?

This is a valid question. There is no single best answer but here is my view and some thoughts........

First the woman who created this course is a friend of mine. I have trained with her, learned from her and have been inspired by her passions.  Her goal for this work, one with which I share is to normalize this part of the body, remove the sexual stigma and make it natural and accepted everywhere.  So in one sense in what better way to begin to accept this way of thinking would be across gender.  The second reason is that I am qualified, and have been teaching and incorporating this practice into my work for a long time.  Many of my clients appreciate the opportunity to have this choice for themselves.  Alot of what we learn in this course is about communication and mindset. It is not a course laden with specific technique.

That being said, I recognize that there will still be a number of female therapists who would be most comfortable in a same gender environment.  If you can handle just the teacher, I am happy to offer same gender courses along with open courses.  In my experience, very few men sign up for these classes, usually only 1 or 2, and every time it has been a positive experience.  If you are a woman therapist looking for a female instructor, I do my best to make suggestions.
